What is Ultrafiltration?

Ultrafiltration UF systems treat water through semi-permeable membranes with 0.01-0.1 micron pore size. UF systems offer high surface area especially with hollow fiber PVDF and PES membranes. They remove bacteria, viruses, parasites, suspended solids and high-molecular organics with 99% efficiency.

UF systems work on pressure difference principle at low 1-5 bar pressure. Water passes through membrane pores while particles are removed via backwash. Low pressure means minimum energy consumption.

Ultrafiltration is widely used for drinking water, process water, food-beverage production and RO system pre-treatment. MBR is essentially a combination of biological treatment and UF technology. Eco-friendly without chemicals.

How Does UF Work?

UF systems work with hollow fiber membrane modules. Each module consists of thousands of thin fibers, each acting as a mini filter. Out-in or in-out flow configurations available.

Water is pumped to fiber surface under low pressure (1-5 bar). Only water molecules and dissolved minerals pass through 0.01-0.1 micron pores. Bacteria, viruses and particles are retained on fiber surface. The permeate is clean water.

Accumulated particles are removed by automatic backwash. Chemical clean-in-place (CIP) every 1-3 months maintains membrane performance.

Mikrofiltrasyon (MF) 0.1-1 mikron gözenek boyutuyla sadece askıda katı maddeleri tutar. Ultrafiltrasyon (UF) ise 0.01-0.1 mikron ile daha hassas filtrasyon yapar ve virüsleri, bakterileri ve yüksek moleküllü organikleri de uzaklaştırır. UF dezenfeksiyon seviyesinde arıtma sağlar.

Seçim ihtiyacınıza bağlıdır. UF (0.01-0.1 mikron) çözünmüş tuz ve mineralleri uzaklaştırmaz, sadece mikroorganizma ve partikül giderir. Ters ozmoz ise (0.0001 mikron) tuz dahil her şeyi uzaklaştırır. Tuz giderimi gerekmiyorsa UF daha ekonomik ve enerji verimli seçimdir. Tuz giderimi şartsa RO öncesi UF ön arıtması ideal kombinasyondur.

Hollow fiber (içi boş elyaf) UF membranlarının en yaygın yapısıdır. Her elyaf milimetrenin altındaki çapta içi boş bir tüp şeklindedir ve binlercesi bir modülde toplanır. Bu sayede 1 m² taban alanına 50-100 m² filtrasyon yüzeyi sığar. PVDF ve PES yaygın malzemelerdir.

UF membranları iki seviyede temizlenir. Geri yıkama (backwash) 15-60 dakikada bir otomatik yapılır ve 1-3 dakika sürer. Kimyasal yerinde temizlik (CIP) ise 1-3 ayda bir uygulanır ve organik/inorganik kirlilikleri çözer. Düzenli temizlik membran ömrünü 5-7 yıla çıkarır.

UF sistemleri içme suyu hazırlama, MBR sistemleri, gıda-içecek (süt, meyve suyu), tekstil, ilaç, hastane, yüzme havuzu, atıksu geri kazanımı ve RO ön arıtması başta olmak üzere geniş bir uygulama yelpazesine sahiptir. Modern arıtma tesislerinin standart bir bileşeni haline gelmiştir.
