What is MBBR System?
MBBR (Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor) is a modern method combining biological processes with carrier media technology in wastewater treatment. It offers a more compact and efficient solution compared to activated sludge technology.
The system uses floating carrier media made of HDPE material. Microorganisms attach to the surface of the media as biofilm and break down pollutants. The moving media structure provides continuous self-cleaning.
As a result, organic matter, nitrogen and phosphorus treatment can be performed in a single system. MBBR systems are ideal for facilities with space constraints.

How Does MBBR Work?
In the MBBR system, wastewater first passes through pre-treatment with screens and grit traps. Large particles are removed. Then it is directed to the biofilm reactor.
Inside the reactor are floating HDPE carrier media. Microorganisms attach to the media surface as biofilm and break down organic pollutants. This provides a continuously active biological process.
The aeration system keeps the media in motion and provides oxygen. The biofilm continuously renews itself. In the final settling section, treated water is separated from biological mass.
