MBR Wastewater Treatment (Membrane Bioreactor) systems combine biological treatment with membrane filtration in a single unit, offering much higher treatment efficiency and compact facility area compared to traditional activated sludge systems. MBR bioreactor technology is an indispensable solution, especially in projects where water recovery is targeted.
What is an MBR Bioreactor?
MBR bioreactor is an advanced treatment technology that combines biological wastewater treatment processes with membrane filtration technology within a single system. The final settling tank used in traditional activated sludge systems is replaced by micro or ultrafiltration membranes.
As a result, the treated water is purified from suspended solids, bacteria, and viruses by passing through the membrane pores. MBR bioreactor technology is an indispensable solution, especially in facilities where the reuse of treated water is targeted.
Additionally, it stands out with its compact structure in areas with land restrictions and in projects requiring high discharge standards. Our systems are designed with capacities ranging from 50 m³/day to 10,000 m³/day. For smaller capacities, you can check our package treatment systems.

How Does an MBR Bioreactor Work?
In the MBR bioreactor system, wastewater first enters the biological reactor. Here, aerobic microorganisms break down organic pollution. Therefore, biological treatment is completed in the initial stage.
In addition, membrane modules placed inside or outside the biological reactor separate the treated water from the sludge. Thanks to the membrane pore size of 0.04-0.4 µm, bacteria and viruses are completely retained.
As a result, the obtained permeate (filtrate water) can be directly discharged. Additionally, industrial quality reclaimed water can be produced by feeding it into the reverse osmosis system. The system operates fully automatically with PLC and SCADA.

Wastewater Treatment Process
The general flow we apply in industrial wastewater treatment plants. You can click on each stage to access detailed information.
Wastewater passes through coarse screening and grit chamber — large particles, stones and sand removed. pH and flow measured.
Equalization (flow/load balancing), coagulation-flocculation (PAC/alum dosing), primary clarification — 80%+ TSS removal.
Aerobic biological treatment — activated sludge or MBR. 95%+ BOD/COD removal. Nitrification-denitrification for nitrogen removal.
Ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis remove bacteria/viruses and dissolved salts. RO permeate reaches potable quality (conductivity <50 µS/cm).
UV (40 mJ/cm² dose) or controlled chlorine dosing achieves 4-log pathogen inactivation. Ready for discharge or reuse.
Treated water returned to plant (cooling tower, washing, CIP), landscape irrigation, or controlled discharge. Lower carbon footprint.
